Punya Kaal
6:00 AM — 12:24 PM
The Sun turns north — a day for gratitude, giving, and new resolve.
About the day
Makar Sankranti marks the Sun's entry into sidereal Capricorn and the start of Uttarayana, the Sun's northward half-year. It is one of the few festivals reckoned by the Sun rather than the Moon.
How it is observed
Bathe early, offer water to the Sun, and give — sesame, jaggery, grain or warm clothing — during the Punya Kaal.
